Lallana on Pochettino’s Tottenham wanted list
New Tottenham Hotspur Coach Mauricio Pochettino will return to his old club Southampton for one of his first signings at White Hart Lane, the Guardian has reported, as Pochettino targets England midfielder Adam Lallana.
Pochettino was this week confirmed as successor to Tim Sherwood, having spent less than 18 months in charge of the Saints and leaving after taking the club to an eighth place finish in this season’s Premier League.
The Guardian believes Lallana is a candidate to make the same move, although Liverpool have also been heavily linked with the Southampton captain. But Lallana is a long-term target of Spurs and a fee of £20m has been mooted.
Lallana made his England debut this season and his form at club level won him a place in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the World Cup. Lallana will be joined in Brazil by Southampton teammates Rickie Lambert and Luke Shaw.
Pochettino was offered a new deal to remain at St. Mary’s but chose to go to Tottenham instead, the Londoners paying £2m to buy out the final year of his deal.
Spurs finished sixth under Sherwood, 13 points better off than Southampton and twice beat Southampton 3-2 last season.
