De Gea hopes Fabregas joins Man Utd
David De Gea has said he would like to see Spain international colleague Cesc Fabregas return to the Premier League and join him at Manchester United, ESPN has reported.
De Gea added that he is using the fact that he’s in close proximity to Fabregas as La Roja prepare for the World Cup to convince the Barcelona midfielder to head for Old Trafford.
“I have tried to convince [Fabregas] to come [to Old Trafford],” De Gea admitted. “We would have another Spaniard. But it is difficult. He is a top level player, many teams want him. He said he liked it at Barcelona, it was his home, and the truth is it would be difficult for us to get him.”
De Gea was joined by Juan Mata in January after Mata was allowed to leave Chelsea. Mata is also in the Spain squad prior to the friendly against Bolivia on Friday. Coach Vicente Del Bosque has yet to name his final 23 for the World Cup and will do so after the game against the South Americans.
It had also been reported that United tried to tempt Del Bosque to quit Spain and take over from David Moyes, only to be rebuffed and turn instead to Louis van Gaal.
De Gea said that Del Bosque would have been a success at United but understands why he wants to stay in his current role. “We know that Vicente is a great coach, and is doing magnificent work here,” De Gea said. “He would also do so in Manchester. But I guess he really likes it here and is staying here.”
