Atletico Madrid keen on Tottenham striker Soldado

With star striker Diego Costa expected to leave this summer, Atletico Madrid have pinpointed Tottenham’s Roberto Soldado as a potential replacement, the Independent has reported.

Roberto Soldado

Costa is high-profile transfer target for Chelsea, and a deal of around £40m is expected to go through over the coming weeks, leaving Atletico with a big gap to fill. The Spaniard scored 36 goals in 51 games to help Diego Simeone’s team to the La Liga title and the Champions League final.

Soldado had an excellent scoring record in Spain during his time with Valencia, but has found the going tough in England, scoring just six Premier League goals in his first season at Tottenham, and eventually losing his place in the team to Emmanuel Adebayor and youngster Harry Kane. The 29-year-old is now said to be keen on a return to his homeland,

New Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly keen on adding two more strikers to his squad, with Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez and Loic Remy, who is set to leave Queens Park Rangers. Those signings could further limit Soldado’s opportunities at White Hart Lane should he stay.
