Van Persie feeling fit for World Cup

Robin van Persie has said that the Netherlands might feel the benefit of the injury problems that plagued his season for Manchester United, ESPN has reported.

Van Persie made only 28 appearances for United in the season just ended, compared to 48 the year before. A knee injury kept the striker on the sidelines for a spell but he did return to the team for the final few games of the season.

The 30-year-old also acknowledged that the year wasn’t a good one at club level but insisted his attention is solely on his country now.

“We've had not had an easy season at United, after it all was shiny before,” van Persie lamented. “That's professional football. For the first time in my career, I will not play in Europe. But right now I don't think about Manchester. I am focused on the national team and the World Cup.

“I feel fine,” he added. “I've already begun to build up my fitness in Premier League. And this positive development has continued throughout the training camp.

“I'd say I am at 100%. We've still got the friendlies against Ghana and Ecuador coming up, and I also need them. Mentally, I am ready. I feel fresh; maybe even better than if I had played a full season in England.”

Van Persie netted 18 times for United last season as the now-former Premier League champions slumped to seventh place, missing out, as the player alluded, on European football altogether.
