Swansea City captain Ashley Williams looks set to be leaving the Welsh club this summer to join newly promoted Queens Park Rangers for £4m, according to the Daily Mail.

Williams is about to enter the last year of his contract at the Liberty Stadium, and Swansea are prepared to allow him to leave now rather than see him move on for nothing at the end of next season. The 29-year-old, who has been linked with Arsenal in the past, would be given a much higher salary should he join Harry Redknapp’s side.

He has been a key player for the Swans during their three years in the top-flight, forming solid defensive partnerships with first Steven Caulker and the Chico Flores to consolidate their place among the elite with three mid-table finishes. He has been at Swansea since 2008, when Roberto Martinez signed him from Stockport County.

QPR are expected to be one of the more active sides in the transfer market this summer, but should the move for Williams go through, new boss Garry Monk will be forced to search for a replacement, although he is close to signing FC Twente striker Luc Castaignos.
