Tottenham have opted out of the race to sign Southampton playmaker Adam Lallana, leaving Liverpool to continue their pursuit of the England international, writes the Daily Star.

Adam Lallana

When Mauricio Pochettino left the south coast to take charge at White Hart Lane, rumours were soon rife that the Argentine would look to take Lallana with him, having managed to get the best out of him while Southampton boss.

However, Pochettino has decided to pursue other targets, with Liverpool leading the race to sign the player, having made a £25m bid, having seen one of £20m get rejected by the Saints, who are fighting to keep hold of their star names. Rickie Lambert has already agreed a move to Anfield, which will be confirmed later on Monday.

Despite deciding not to take Lallana to Spurs, Pochettino remains hopeful that he can bring other members of his successful Southampton side to his new club. Striker Jay Rodriguez is one of his main targets, while he is also keen on reuniting with young midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
