Cahill pleased to partner Jagielka for England
Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill has spoken of his happiness at turning out for England with Everton captain Phil Jagielka, the Guardian has reported.
Cahill and Jagielka lined up together for the Three Lions in Friday’s 3-0 friendly win over Peru, both players managing the get on the score sheet. Cahill welcomed the return of Jagielka after he ended the season carrying an injury. “I am aware we have kept quite a few clean sheets which, as defenders, we are pleased about,” Cahill said.
“Friday’s was another one to add to the list,” he continued. “I am pleased Jags is fit and I am pleased he is back. He is a huge player for us.
“We are both pretty talkative on the pitch and have a good understanding. It has come from playing a few games together. You don’t play with someone and, all of a sudden, hit it off straight away but there is now a definite understanding of each other’s game.
“We will keep working on things and it is not just me and Jags but also the other defenders and how we work together.”
Cahill and Jagielka have fewer than 50 international caps between them - Cahill with 23 and Jagielka with 25. The former made his England bow in 2010 while Jagielka broke into the squad in 2008.
