Martinez knows Everton targets
Roberto Martinez has planned Everton’s transfer business for the summer, Sky Sports has reported, with the manager identifying who he wants to sign for the club for next season.
Everton finished fifth in their first season under Martinez following the Spaniard’s move from Wigan Athletic to replace Manchester United-bound David Moyes. The Toffees were seven points off a Champions League place but eight points clear of United, who sacked Moyes before the end of the season.
Martinez has told Everton’s website that with the Europa League to come next season, and the desire to finish in the top four, he will make a number of additions to the squad and has already got some targets lined-up. “Recruitment is vital,” he said. “It's one of those moments of the season where you recollect the good work you've done over the last two windows.
“The recruitment department have been working tirelessly to get the reports and highlight the targets and players that are going to fit in our football club,” Martinez added. “You can imagine it's a long process. We've identified the players and now it's about making sure we can get them to join.
“We don't want to feel that we have to blame European football as the reason we cannot keep the standards in our domestic league.”
Martinez signed Joel Robles, Antolin Alcaraz, James McCarthy and Arouna Kone from Wigan last season and also drafted in Romelu Lukaku, Gerard Deulofeu and Gareth Barry on loan. He also signed Lacina Traore and Aiden McGeady in the January transfer window.
