Southampton eye Hernandez as part of Man Utd Shaw deal
Southampton are thought to want Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez as part of a potential deal for Luke Shaw as the club looks to bolster its striking options, according to the Daily Star.
The Saints have already lost Rickie Lambert to Liverpool, while Jay Rodriguez continues to recover from injury and Dani Osvaldo almost certain to leave the club this summer.
While the club brace themselves for Shaw’s potential departure to Manchester United they see Mexican Hernandez as the perfect make weight in any deal.
With new boss Luis Van Gaal likely to favour fellow countryman Robin Van Persie up front along with Wayne Rooney, Hernandez’s days at Old Trafford could be numbered having already expressed displeasure with life at the Red Devils under David Moyes.
While the Saints will face serious competition from clubs around Europe such as Valencia and Inter Milan they hold the edge as United are desperate to land left back Shaw, with the 18-year-old’s excellent season earning him a call up to England’s World Cup squad.
