Can close to Liverpool move
Liverpool will soon complete the signing of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can, the Daily Mail has reported.
The Reds are said to have activated Can’s release clause, which means they will pay £9.75m for the Germany Under-21 international. Manager Brendan Rodgers is said to have been closely following Can in recent months and has capitalised on the player’s desire to move to the Premier League to see off competition from Serie A side Inter.
Can could become a Liverpool player this week and, if so, would be Rodgers’ second signing of the summer after the £4m capture of Rickie Lambert from Southampton. Can, a product of the Bayern Munich academy can also play as a centre-back.
He made only five appearances for Bayern, scoring once, before switching to Leverkusen in 2013. Last season Can appeared on 39 occasions for Bayer, scoring three time. He has featured half-a-dozen times for Die Mannschaft’s Under-21 side, having played throughout the youth levels for Germany.
Liverpool finished second in the table last season, two points behind champions Manchester City. Leverkusen, by comparison, were fourth in the Bundesliga, 29 points adrift of champions Bayern.
