Tom Carroll wants to impress new Tottenham Hotspur Coach Mauricio Pochettino and win a place in the first team at White Hart Lane, Sky Sports has reported.

Carroll spent last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers and helped Harry Redknapp’s side to a Premier League return via the play-offs. The R’s finished fourth in the Championship but beat third-place Derby County to promotion thanks to a late Bobby Zamora goal in the final in May.

The England Under-21 international has said that he intends to try and catch Pochettino’s eye when preparations for the new campaign get underway, but wouldn’t be adverse to a permanent exit if he can’t sway the Argentine. “I'm going back to Spurs and will try to impress pre-season - and go from there,” he said.

“Being at Rangers has been a positive, and to go up at the end was the icing on the cake. But no player would just want to sit on the bench or in the stands. Everyone wants to play. I'll be back at Spurs and hopefully I can do it there. If not, then we'll see.”

Carroll made 26 appearances for QPR but wasn’t included for the play-off games. He has featured seven times for his parent club, including playing in the Europa League, having made his Spurs bow in 2011 against Hearts. The 22-year-old has also had loan spells at Leyton Orient and Derby.
