Chelsea ready to hand Fabregas £200,000 per-week deal

Chelsea are ready to offer Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas a contract worth £200,000 per week, as they attempt to lure him to Stamford Bridge this summer, according to the Metro.

Cesc Fabregas

Last season’s Champions League semi-finalists have emerged as major contenders to sign Fabregas, alongside Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal, with the Gunners having originally sold the Spaniard to Barcelona in the summer of 2011.

Fabregas has been told by Barcelona that he is free to leave the club this summer after scoring 42 goals in 151 appearances. Man Utd have a long standing interest in the 27-year-old, but Chelsea are believed to hold the upper hand, particularly as they can offer Champions League football next season, unlike Louis van Gaal’s men.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho, who is close to completing the signing of Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, sees Fabregas as the perfect replacement for the long-serving Frank Lampard, who announced on Monday that he was to leave the club after 13 years.

Mourinho is looking to complete all of his transfer business before the end of the World Cup on July 13. Arsenal have the first option to sign Fabregas, but Chelsea believe that their money can tempt him to West London, with a bid of around £30 expected to be made by the end of the week.
