Man City handed Marquinhos boost
Manchester City have been handed a boost in their attempts to sign Paris St. Germain defender Marquinhos after the French champions decided that they were willing to listen to offers for the Brazilian, according to Talksport.
Marquinhos was only brought to the Parc-de-Princes last summer, in a £27m move from Roma. However, he has struggled to establish himself as a regular for PSG, with the more experienced duo of Alex and Thiago Silva generally preferred in central defence.
Furthermore, Chelsea’s David Luiz is expected to complete a move to PSG in the coming days, meaning that Marquinhos’ opportunities become even more limited. Last season he started less than half of PSG’s Ligue 1 fixtures.
Man City have been after a central defender, with manager Manuel Pellegrini having made strengthening that area his main priority for the summer. Eliaquim Mangala of FC Porto, and Roma star Mehdi Benatia are both said to be targets, but a bid of around £35 could see them land Marquinhos.
PSG are looking to gain a healthy profit on the 20-year-old, and Barcelona are also interested. The Catalans are likely to battle it out with Man City for his signature.
