England manager Roy Hodgson has said that winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be fit for the World Cup despite an injury scare, ITV Sport has reported.

Hodgson confirmed the Arsenal youngster’s fitness after he saw his side draw 0-0 with Honduras in their final World Cup warm-up match in Miami. It was a game interrupted by a storm, which led to the players being taken off for a lengthy period of time. The match was eventually completed, with England failing to break through, even against 10 men.

Oxlade-Chamberlain sat the game out, having been forced off during England’s previous game against Ecuador. A scan revealed that he had suffered some ligament damage, but Hodgson insists that he will be able to play in the competition, with the Three Lions’ first Group D match against Italy coming up on Saturday evening.

He said: "It's time for the real thing now. Everyone is fit. Oxlade-Chamberlain is making good progress. I think he'll make the tournament without a shadow of a doubt."

The 20-year-old has scored three caps in his 18 England appearances to date, and this is set to be his second major tournament representing his country, having impressed at Euro 2012.
