Man Utd in talks with Barcelona’s Sanchez

Manchester United have opened talks with Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez over a possible summer move to Old Trafford, according to the Daily Star.

The Red Devils have reportedly made a £20m bid for the Chile international, and are now locked in discussions with Barcelona, although Liverpool and Italian champions Juventus are said to have also registered an interest.

Sanchez has been told by new Barcelona Head Coach Luis Enrique that he is free to find a new club this summer, despite scoring 19 goals in La Liga last season. He has been at the Nou Camp since joining from Serie A club Udinese in the summer of 2011.

Liverpool and Juventus both hold an advantage over Man Utd in that they can offer Sanchez the prospect of Champions League football next season, but Louis van Gaal’s side are the only club to have made it clear that they are willing to match Barcelona’s asking price. Juventus have recently had an £18m bid for the 25-year-old rejected.

Any deal is unlikely to be completed until after the World Cup, where he is set to come up against van Gaal’s Netherlands team. The new Man Utd boss is relying on chief executive Ed Woodward to handle their transfer dealings until the Dutch exit the competition.
