Napoli unwilling to meet asking price for Reina
The agent of Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina has said that Napoli are reluctant to meet the Premier League club’s asking price for the Spaniard, Sky Sports has reported.
Reina is out of favour at Anfield, and unlikely to play for the club again as long as Brendan Rodgers remains the manager. Having initially been first-choice under the Northern Irishman, Reina fell down the pecking order upon the arrival of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland last summer.
With the 2010 World Cup winner looking for first-team football, he joined Napoli on loan for last season under former boss Rafael Benitez, making 43 appearances and keeping 13 clean sheets. During his spell in Naples, he regularly spoke of his desire to make the move permanent.
Napoli are also keen, but they are unwilling to match Liverpool’s asking price, allowing Atletico Madrid to express an interest, with any deal with the La Liga champions set to be dependent on whether Thibaut Courtois returns for a fourth season at the Vicente Calderon.
Reina’s agent, Manuel Garcia Quilon, said: "It's very difficult for Pepe to remain at Napoli. From June 30, he will return to Liverpool because they want to maximise his sale, and Napoli are not willing to spend what is required."
