Napoli dismiss Insigne Arsenal link
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has laughed off speculation linking forward Lorenzo Insigne with a move to FA Cup winners Arsenal, the London Evening Standard has reported.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is said to be an admirer of Insigne, whose form in helping Napoli to winning the Coppa Italia and finishing third in Serie A earned him a place in Italy’s World Cup squad. Overall, he hit nine goals in 51 appearances in all competitions.
Wenger is looking to add more quality and depth to his side in attacking areas, with Olivier Giroud currently their only central striker. He has identified the 22-year-old Insigne as a target, although he has been linked with a move for enigmatic Milan striker Mario Balotelli.
When asked about claims that Arsenal had offered around £20m for Insigne, De Laurentiis responded by insisting that the player is worth much more. “Arsenal offers 20 million for Insigne? This makes me laugh. I want to make Insigne rise to a value of 60-70 million,” he said.
On rumours that his side were targeting Tottenham duo Erik Lamela and Sandro, De Laurentiis added: “Rumours about our interest in him (Lamela) are only agent's games. I wanted him a year ago but they didn't allow the deal. Roma offered us (Pablo) Osvaldo instead. Now, with (Rafael) Benitez, we don't need Lamela any more. Sandro? He's one of our targets, but not the only one."
