Arsenal set to miss out on Casillas
Arsenal look set to miss on signing Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas after his partner ruled out a move away from the Spanish capital, the Daily Express has reported.
Casillas was linked with a move to Arsenal over the weekend, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger pondering a move for the out-of-favour Spain World Cup winner. The 33-year-old has only appeared in the cup competitions since being replaced by the in-form Diego Lopez as Real’s first-choice goalkeeper.
According to reports, Arsenal were confident of landing Casillas after identifying him as a possible summer target, in order to provide quality competition for current No.1 Wojciech Szczesny, particularly with Lukasz Fabianski having left for Swansea City.
However, Casillas’ partner, the journalist Sara Carbonero, has insisted that they would remain in Madrid, saying: "I expect my future to be in Madrid, which is where I am now."
Casillas has been a mainstay at Real Madrid, having spent his entire career at the Bernabeu. In that time, he has won five Spanish league titles, and the Champions League on two occasions.
