Fernando Man City deal close to completion
A £16 million deal to bring Fernando Reges to Manchester City from Porto is set to be completed this week, according to The Guardian.
A deal was reported to be close a week ago, but it is suggested that City will push to finalise the transfer this week, with the 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder expected in Manchester in the next few days.
While many clubs are striving to complete transfers this week before the World Cup gets underway, the same pressure does apply here as Fernando is not a member of the Seleção squad. However, the English champions will still be keen to bolster their squad at the earliest opportunity.
Standing at 6ft tall, Fernando is a commanding presence in the centre of midfield, and comes with a reputation for uncompromising play having picked up 12 yellow and two red cards in Spain last season.
His all-action style has earned him the nickname ‘The Octopus’, and it is thought City boss Manuel Pellegrini sees him as filling the holding midfield role, allowing his other central players more freedom to attack.
The Blues may need to keep their midfield options plentiful if Yaya Touré, unhappy following the now notorious birthday snub, seeks a transfer away from the club later in the summer.
