Man Utd to make £20m Schweinsteiger bid
Manchester United are preparing a bid for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, whose manager Josep Guardiola is willing to sell, according to the Daily Express.
The Red Devils retain a slight interest in Schweinsteiger’s teammate Toni Kroos, but have missed out in their attempts to sign Thomas Muller. They have now switched their attentions to the 29-year-old, with new boss Louis van Gaal targeting a creative midfielder, an area in which the side was badly lacking last season.
Partly due to injury, Schweinsteiger has lost his regular place in the first-team, with Guardiola preferring Kroos alongside the likes of youngsters Thiago Alcantara and Mario Gotze. Last season, he appeared in just 23 of Bayern’s 34 Bundesliga matches.
Man Utd are now set to confirm their interest by making an offer of £20m, which could be enough to tempt the German champions into a sale. Despite the Red Devils’ failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Schweinsteiger could be keen to reunite with van Gaal, who is among his former managers at the Allianz Arena.
