Wolfsburg seek fair price for Lukaku

Wolfsburg are reported to be keen on signing Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, but will not be held to ransom over the transfer fee, according to The Daily Star.

Lukaku does not see his prospects of regular first team football at Stamford Bridge improving, and as such is said to be open to a permanent move away from west London.

The 21-year-old Belgian international initially joined Chelsea from Anderlecht in 2011, but failed to command a regular place with the Blues, and to date has made just 10 Premier League appearances for the club.

Lukaku spent a successful season on loan with West Bromwich Albion in 2012/13, scoring 17 times in 38 games. He repeated this success with another temporary move, scoring 16 for Everton in 33 appearances in all competitions last season.

Chelsea are reported to be considering offering Lukaku a new contract, but have also not denied the possibility that he could be sent out on loan for the third consecutive season. This could sway his decision to seek a permanent departure.

Wolfsburg have confirmed their interest in bringing the striker to the Bundesliga, but also that they would not pay an exorbitant fee for the player. Sporting director Klaus Allofs said: "If the player [Lukaku] is getting cheaper, maybe this affair is picking up pace."

He also recognised that should Lukaku choose to seek a permanent transfer, the Germans are unlikely to be the only team interested in securing his signature.
