Arsenal eye bid for Liverpool goalkeeper Reina
Arsenal are set to make a £5m bid for out-of-favour Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina and hope to end the uncertainty over the Spaniard’s future, according to the Metro.
The reported offer comes after Arsenal missed out on Iker Casillas, who looks set to stay at Real Madrid despite his lack of regular football. Manager Arsene Wenger is looking to bring a new goalkeeper to the Emirates Stadium this summer, with Lukasz Fabianski having left for Swansea. It could see Wojciech Szczesny replaced as first choice stopper.
Reina, who has been a Liverpool player for nine years, lost his place last summer when Brendan Rodgers signed Simon Mignolet from Sunderland. The Belgian went on to play all 38 of the Reds’ Premier League fixtures, ensuring that Reina had to secure a loan move to Napoli to get playing time.
He impressed for Napoli, and the Serie A club are keen to take him back. However, they have not yet made a bid to sign Reina on a permanent basis, as they are unwilling to meet Liverpool’s asking price.
