Man Utd boost as Song told he can leave Barcelona
Manchester United’s hopes of signing Barcelona defensive midfielder Alexandre Song have been handed a major boost after the Cameroonian was told that he is free to leave the Nou Camp, according to Talksport.
The former Arsenal man has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent days, with the Red Devils looking to overhaul their midfield over the summer. He has also attracted reported interest from Italy, with Inter and Napoli among those also in the race for his signature.
After five seasons in the Arsenal first-team, he left North London for Spain in the summer of 2012, but has found regular football hard to come by since making the move. He has made just 29 La Liga starts in two seasons, with Sergio Busquets often preferred in the holding role.
Javier Mascherano, who can also play in the position, has just signed a new four-year contract, and as a result, Song’s agent has been told to find a new club for his client for next season as he does not feature in new manager Luis Enrique’s plans.
