Arsenal full-back Sagna to join Man City
Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna, ESPN has reported.
Sagna’s contract with the Gunners expires this summer and he is to join the Premier League champions on a three-year contract. It’s thought the France international has moved to the Etihad Stadium after snubbing interest from Serie A side Inter.
The 31-year-old is understood to have turned down a two-year contract extension with the Gunners in favour of a move to City, following the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri in quitting the London club for the Blues.
Sagna moved to Arsenal from Auxerre in 2007 and played almost 300 times under Arsene Wenger, winning the FA Cup last season. He could make his first City appearance in the Community Shield, against his former club.
He wrote in a statement released on social media that he ‘became a man [at Arsenal]’ and offered his thanks to the players and staff he leaves behind. “I want to thank the Coach Mr Wenger who believed in me, gave me his trust and clearly changed my life,” Sagna added.
