Liverpool start Shaqiri talks

Liverpool have started negotiations with Bayern Munich for Switzerland international Xheridan Shaqiri as the Reds continue to strengthen this summer, according to the Daily Star.

With any deal for England star Adam Lallana appearing to have come no closer, Brendan Rodgers has targeted the winger as another potential signing having already made Rickie Lambert a Liverpool player.

Shaqiri has struggled to break through the ranks at Munich this term – with the likes of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben holding down a first team birth for the majority of the season, and the Swiss has made it clear he is unhappy with watching from the sidelines.

Rodgers has stated he is looking for players who can adapt and be versatile – Shaqiri can play on either wing or down the middle, and would likely fit into a pace and flair laden Liverpool side.

And with the 22-year-old voicing his concerns a transfer could be likely.

Shaqiri said: “I'm not going to go through another year like this. If not much changes, then I will have to change something.

“I am young and need to develop myself. I want to play in the big games from the beginning, and not just in the league when everything is already clear.”

Shaqiri has only made 27 appearances in total this season, pitching in with 7 goals.

The player has only played 65 times for the club since his move from FC Basel two years ago.
