Wolfsburg make offer for Arsenal target Morata
Arsenal could find themselves missing out on Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, after German club Wolfsburg submitted a £15.9m offer for his services, according to the Independent.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is aiming to add a new striker to his squad over the summer to provide competition and support to Olivier Giroud. Morata has long been a reported target, but so far the North London club are yet to make an offer, allowing clubs such as Wolfsburg and Italian champions Juventus to step in and make a move for the young Spaniard.
Wolfsburg’s offer is worth more than the £14.3m deal proposed by Juventus, although Morata may be more willing to head to Turin, with the prospect of Champions League football available.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has already admitted that Morata will be leaving this summer due to his lack of first-team opportunities at the Bernabeu, where he made just three league starts in the whole of last season, finding himself behind Karim Benzema and Isco in the pecking order. A season-long loan move is also a possibility.
The German club’s director, Klaus Alloffs, will go to Madrid in the coming week to try and negotiate a deal for Morata, who helped Spain to victory at the 2013 European U-21 Championships.
