Liverpool eye move for Man City defender

Liverpool are set to make a move for Manchester City outcast Micah Richards after the Etihad club sealed their own deal for free agent Bacary Sagna, the Daily Star has reported.

Bacary Sagna will sign a three year deal when he returns from the World cup in Brazil this summer, and is set to share the right back position with current first teamer Pablo Zabaleta – meaning Richards may no longer be needed at the club.

Injuries have limited the player’s attempts to challenge for a first team place – he has made just 18 appearances in two seasons at the club he has been with for 11 years.

This run of poor injury luck has seen him slip down the pecking order for both club and country, and the 25-year-old looks set for a move away.

While Hull and West Ham are also credited with an interest, Liverpool will be in pole position to make their move as they can offer a Premier League title challenge and Champions League football to the defender.

The Reds are said to be preparing to table a £7m bid for the player.
