Hull target Lescott signing
Free agent Joleon Lescott is in discussions to join Hull City, with a deal possibly being finalised this week according to Sky Sports.
Lescott was released by Manchester City when his contract expired at the end of their Premier League-winning 2013/14 season. The defender made 24 appearances in all competitions last term, but less than half of these came in the Premier League.
While he may have been seen as surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium, at only 31 years of age Lescott is far from finished and there has been no shortage of interest in his services since he became available. Aston Villa and West Ham United were among the Premier League teams who made enquiries, while interest was also reported from German giants Schalke 04.
But it is FA Cup finalists Hull who now appear to be at the head of the queue to secure his services, with the player hoping to undergo a medical this week ahead of agreeing terms.
Lescott originally cost Manchester City £22 million when signing from Everton in 2009, and made a total of 160 appearances in all competitions during his five-year stay, picking up two Premier League winners’ medals along with an FA Cup and Capital One Cup. He has also won 26 England caps, although is not part of Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.
