Suarez: I'm ready for England

Uruguay forward Luis Suarez has insisted he is fit and ready to play England in World Cup Group D, Sky Sports has reported.

Suarez underwent knee surgery at the end of the season and his fitness for the tournament has been in doubt ever since. The Liverpool attacker missed his country’s opening game, a 3-1 defeat against Costa Rica, not getting onto the pitch despite being named in the squad for the fixture.

But Suarez has now said he is approaching his best and all he needs is playing time. “I have been training for a few days with the team and I am 100% ready, I now only need time on the pitch and to play the game,” the Premier League’s top scorer insisted.

“There was never a moment when Liverpool said to me 'don't play'. The club have complete trust in Uruguay's team,” Suarez added. “I know all the English national team players, both because they are teammates or because they are rivals.

“They have defensive woes that we can take advantage of, but I won't tell the press how we have to play.”

The 27-year-old netted 31 goals in 37 games for the Reds last season as Brendan Rodgers’ side finished second in the table, while he scored 11 goals in World Cup qualifying to end the campaign as the top scorer in the stage.
