Tottenham eye Bony as Lukaku alternative

Tottenham will turn their attention towards signing Swansea City star Wilfried Bony should they fail in their attempts to bring Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku to White Hart Lane this summer, reports the Daily Mail.

Wilfried Bony

Since taking charge in May, new boss Mauricio Pochettino has set his sights on Lukaku, whose future at Stamford Bridge is in some doubt, having spent the last two seasons on loan at West Bromwich Albion and Everton respectively. The Belgian is not guaranteed to be given first-team football by Jose Mourinho.

Several other clubs are interested in obtaining Lukaku’s services, with the best offer currently on the table coming from Spanish champions Atletico Madrid. Everton, Roma, Wolfsburg and Juventus are all said to be in the running for the 21-year-old.

Should Spurs fail to land their primary target, they will turn to Bony, who impressed massively in his first season in England. Swansea’s record signing scored 26 goals in all competitions including 17 in the Premier League, earning himself a place in the Ivory Coast starting XI at the World Cup.

The Welsh club are looking to gain a profit on Bony should they be forced into a sale, however, and have set an asking price of £19m for the powerful 25-year-old. The player has previously stated that he would only leave the Liberty Stadium for a top-six club.
