Barca ‘close to Suarez signing’
Reports in the Spanish Press claim Barcelona are close to agreeing a deal to sign Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, Football Espana has reported.
It’s said the Uruguay international has an €85m release clause in his Reds contract - but that fee is lowered by €20m if an offer comes from Real Madrid or Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Liverpool are said to be keen to sign Barca’s Alexis Sanchez and a further report suggests Barca will offer the Chile winger to Brendan Rodgers in return. Should Liverpool be open to the proposal, Barca would pay between €35m and €40m for Suarez.
But Liverpool face competition from Atletico Madrid and Juventus for Alexis’ signature, it’s believed, with the player currently impressing for his country at the World Cup.
Suarez scored twice for Uruguay on Thursday night to beat England 2-1 and leave the Three Lions on the brink of elimination from the tournament, while Alexis has helped knock out the holders Spain at the group stage. Chile beat Spain 2-0, having dispatched Australia 3-1 in their opening fixture.
