Joleon Lescott has joined West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City, Sky Sports has confirmed.

Joleon Lescott

Lescott is reunited with Alan Irvine at the Hawthorns, with Irvine having been assistant manager at Everton under David Moyes. Lescott spent three years at Goodison Park, between 2006 and 2009, before switching to the Etihad Stadium.

But his City contract expired at the end of the season and the England international was allowed to move on, signing a two-year deal with the Baggies. Lescott, born in Birmingham, began his career with Albion’s near neighbours and rivals Wolves, making more than 200 appearances for the Molineux club.

“I'm delighted we've been able to agree a deal with Joleon,” Irvine, appointed this month as Head Coach, said. “He's an England international and a proven Premier League player, who has been at the top level for a number of years.

“He's got Premier League and cup medals to his name and has had a fantastic career so far,” Irvine continued. “When we realised he was available and there was a realistic chance of getting him here we started to work very hard on it.

“Full credit to the board and everyone at the club for getting this done as quickly and effectively as they did. I know Joleon and the type of personality and character he is, in addition to knowing what he can do as a player.

“He's a great professional and he will add to a number of very good professionals who are already in the squad.”

The 31-year-old has played more than 500 times for his various clubs, and won 26 international caps since his debut in 2007.
