Prandelli refusing to panic after Costa Rica defeat
Italy manager Cesare Prandelli has insisted that he is not panicking after his side slipped to a surprise 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica in their second World Cup Group D match, Goal.com has reported.
Minutes after Costa Rica had what appeared to be a clear penalty not given in their favour, Bryan Ruiz headed Junior Diaz’ fine cross past Gianluigi Buffon to hand Costa Rica their second win of the World Cup, one which secured their place in the knockout stages against all the odds with one game still to spare.
For Italy, they now take on Uruguay in a game which will decide who goes through alongside the Central American team. Due to their superior goal difference, a draw would be enough for the Azzurri to send them into the second round.
After the match, Prandelli admitted his side deserved to be beaten, but remains hopeful ahead of their upcoming showdown in Natal. He said: "There’s no need to panic, we just have to recover and get ready for Tuesday’s match. It was a well-deserved defeat but we already knew it was going to be a very tough group. We will do our best against Uruguay."
