England captain Steven Gerrard has urged QPR manager Harry Redknapp to name and shame the players that he claimed did not want to play for England during his time at Tottenham Hotspur, the Telegraph is reporting.

Redknapp had earlier this week revealed that players under his time as Spurs manager came to him asking for excuses to not represent their country, although he refused to reveal the identity of those he was speaking about.

But current England captain Gerrard has asked him to not protect the image of those involved and wants their names to be revealed for all to see, branding their attitude “disgusting”.

He said: “If Harry is making a comment like that, he should name them and embarrass them. No one in this group wants to go home.

“Should Harry not name them? If it’s the case, it’s disgusting. For me, if a player doesn’t want to be [with England], he doesn’t deserve to be here.

"The comment is a comment, like ‘them’. ‘They’ didn’t want to play for England. Who? Name them. Is it Aaron Lennon, Kyle Walker, Andros Townsend? I don’t know who he means.”

Redknapp managed a whole host of players who represented England during his time at the White Hart Lane helm, although Andros Townsend played for his country after Redknapp’s departure.

Aaron Lennon, Kyle Walker, Jermaine Jenas, Jonathan Woodgate, Ledley King, Darren Bent, Scott Parker, David Bentley, Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson and Peter Crouch are all on the list of English players that he could be referring to.

However both Gerrard and Hodgson absolved Defoe of any wrong doing, both stating he was devastated to not be at the World Cup.

Redknapp, who was favourite to land the England job before Hodgson was picked in 2012, made his revelations to Radio 5live, saying players came to him 10 days before asking for excuses not to go.
