O’Shea plays down Tottenham speculation
Sunderland defender John O’Shea has insisted that he is happy to stay at the club despite speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham, the Sunderland Echo has reported.
With Tottenham set to part company with the likes of Michael Dawson, Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches, O’Shea has been widely touted as a potential replacement, with new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino apparently weighing up a £3m offer for the Irishman, who has just one year remaining on his current contract.
However, O’Shea has laughed off the speculation, assuring supporters that he is happy on Wearside. He said: “It was news to myself. That’s the way it goes at this time of the year, there is lots of stuff rumoured about players coming and going.
“It’s just one of those things. It’s just total speculation. I’m in the game long enough to know that and I’m more than happy with Sunderland.”
The 33-year-old has now been at Sunderland for three seasons, having followed teammate Wes Brown from Manchester United in the summer of 2011. He has gone on to captain the side, and score three goals in 112 appearances.
