Atletico make move for Man City striker

Wednesday 25 June 2014

Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo as they search for a replacement for Chelsea bound Diego Costa, according to the Daily Mail.

Negredo enjoyed a super first season at the Etihad before injury hindered the latter stages, scoring 23 goals following his £20m switch from Sevilla last summer.

Yet it is thought that the Spaniard is struggling to settle to life in England and Atletico could offer a way for the unhappy striker to return to Spain – and would have money to spend thanks to the Costa deal.

Diego Simeone will be keen to replace the goals of Costa for the Spanish champions and Negredo has already proved his worth in La Liga.

The player, nicknamed “The Beast”, scored 85 times in 182 appearances for Sevilla and could prove to be the perfect replacement for the prolific Costa.

Despite injury Negredo managed 48 appearances for City this season in all competitions but was snubbed by Spain boss Vicente Del Boque for their World Cup squad in Brazil, meaning the striker will be fresh for the start of the season.
