Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella has said that he believes his side are gradually improving after they won their final Group F game to maintain their 100% record so far at the World Cup, writes Sky Sports.

In an entertaining game against Nigeria, who also made it through to the second round, Lionel Messi opened the scoring after three minutes with a powerful volleyed rebound, only for Ahmed Musa to curl home a fine shot just seconds later to bring the Super Eagles level.

Messi restored his side’s lead on the stroke of half time when he curled a free-kick past Vincent Enyeama for his fourth goal of the tournament, and despite another Musa goal, Argentina finally sealed victory when Marcos Rojo turned home from close range after a corner had been headed down by Ezequiel Garay.

After the game, with Switzerland lying in wait in the second round, Sabella said: "Nigeria are a versatile team, but they were not as aggressive when they occupy the spaces. We started improving from the point of view of structure. We see an improvement as a whole. I don't like speaking about individuals.

"The strikers played a better game this time. The weakness we discuss at home in private. You can win not playing well and still have things to correct, I'm pleased about the nine points but I must always improve."
