Arsenal and Man Utd battling to sign Sanchez
Arsenal and Manchester United are in competition to sign Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to leave Spain this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Sanchez, who hit 19 goals in La Liga last season, is currently playing for Chile at the World Cup, after which his future will be decided by Barcelona. The Catalans are interested in signing Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, and some reports have suggested that the former Udinese star could be used as a makeweight in any potential deal struck for the Uruguayan.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been eyeing Sanchez since 2009, and is a keen admirer of his talents. He faces competition from some of Europe’s other leading clubs for Sanchez’ signature, but does have the upper hand on Man Utd due to their participation in next season’s Champions League.
Man Utd are still said to be preparing a bid of £22m for Sanchez, who has been at Barcelona since 2011. Arsenal, meanwhile, have made Barcelona aware of their interest, with Wenger looking to add more attacking options to his squad this summer to combat the lack of depth in forward areas which hampered the club’s title challenge last term.
