Manchester United are expected to complete the signing of Southampton starlet Luke Shaw in the coming days, with the 18-year-old set to undergo a medical, according to BBC Sport.

Luke Shaw

Shaw has recently returned from the World Cup in Brazil after England went out of the group stage. He made his first competitive international appearance against Costa Rica on Tuesday after earning a place in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad thanks to a highly consistent season at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

He started all 38 of Southampton’s Premier League matches as they achieved a highly creditable eighth-place finish as well as their highest points tally in the Premier League era. Throughout the campaign, however, he along with a number of his teammates were linked with moves elsewhere.

The youngster has been a reported target of Man Utd for several months, and after allowing Alexander Buttner to join Dinamo Moscow, they have turned to Shaw to provide competition for the experienced Patrice Evra.

A fee is likely to have been agreed between the two clubs for Shaw, with the deal now dependent on the results of the upcoming medical. Should all go to plan for United, he would become their second summer signing after Ander Herrera, who they brought in from Athletic Bilbao on Thursday.
