Liverpool seek full price for Suarez
If disgraced striker Luis Suarez is to leave Anfield this summer, it will not be for any less than his full value, reports The Daily Star.
Rumours have once again surfaced that Suarez could leave Merseyside following the lengthy ban he received yesterday from Fifa.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with the 27-year-old striker in recent weeks, and it was reported that the Catalan giants were preparing a part-exchange deal involving Chilean star Alexis Sanchez and worth around £80 million.
But the punishment handed to Suarez yesterday for apparently biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini – nine international matches and a four-month suspension from any football activity – may now see Barcelona trying to negotiate a much lower price.
However, Liverpool are still expected to insist on receiving the full market value for the controversial forward in the event of any transfer, and will only let him leave Anfield at the right time and for the right price.
Suarez signed an extended five year contract in December 2013, and eventually enjoyed a successful campaign in 2013/14. He scored 31 times in all competitions after missing the start of the season due to another lengthy ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.
Liverpool are also reported to be seeking expert advice before they react fully to the situation, and what options of appeal they may have against the punishment that undoubtedly affects them significantly as well as Suarez himself.
