Arsenal considering Remy approach

Friday 27 June 2014

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could turn to Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy as a rival to Olivier Giroud, ESPN has reported.

Loic Remy

Remy spent last season on loan from QPR at Newcastle and R’s manager Harry Redknapp has suggested Remy would be on the move again ahead of the new campaign. Redknapp said Remy wants to play in the Champions League and has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Loftus Road.

The 27-year-old scored 14 goals in 26 games for the Magpies last season, having moved to English football with QPR from Marseille in January 2012. He netted six goals in 14 appearances in his half-season in the capital but couldn’t prevent the side dropping into the Championship.

QPR return to the top flight for next season after winning the play-offs, a late Bobby Zamora goal beating Derby County in the Wembley showpiece in May.

It’s suggested that Wenger wants Remy as well as compatriot Mathieu Debuchy, the Newcastle right-back who could make an £8m move to the Emirates Stadium.
