New Manchester United signing Luke Shaw has spoken of his delight at making the move from Southampton after the transfer was confirmed on the club’s official website.

Shaw has recently returned from the World Cup with England and becomes United’s second signing in a matter of days, following Spain international Ander Herrera to Old Trafford.

United have revealed that Shaw has signed a four-year contract with the option for another year, having made fewer than 70 appearances for Southampton since his senior debut at the south coast club in 2012.

“I am thrilled and excited to be joining Manchester United. I have been at Southampton since I was eight years old and I would like to thank them and the fans for everything they have done for me,” Shaw said.

“I want to continue to progress my career and joining United is the ideal place for me to do that,” the 18-yeaar-old continued. “I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life and also looking forward to learning from the world-class players and management at the club.”

Shaw joins Patrice Evra and Alex Buttner as left-backs available to new manager Louis van Gaal, who will take over at United after the Netherlands’ interest in the World Cup comes to an end.
