Swansea City have confirmed the signing of striker Bafetimbi Gomis on a free transfer, with the Frenchman having penned a four-year contract, the Daily Mail has reported.

Last summer, they failed in their attempts to sign Gomis from Lyon, seeing a bid of £8.5m rejected by the Ligue 1 side. However, the 28-year-old left the Stade Gerland at the end of last season, meaning he was free to talk to other clubs, and Swansea have beaten a couple of their Premier League rivals to land Gomis.

He now becomes their second summer signing after former Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, and adds to a strike-force that already comprises prolific duo Miguel Michu and Wilfried Bony. Gomis is also a proven striker, as he hit 62 goals in 172 games for Lyon in a five-year stay.

Gomis is not understood to be a replacement for Bony, who has been linked with a move elsewhere in recent weeks due to his impressive first season at the Liberty Stadium. Manager Garry Monk will now look to improve other areas of his team for the remainder of the transfer window.
