Southampton linked with move for Bendtner
With Ronald Koeman still yet to make his first signing since taking charge at Southampton, the club are being linked with a move for former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner, according to the Metro.
Bendtner will officially leave Arsenal on Monday when his contract come to an end, with the Gunners having decided not renew his current deal after a decade at the club. In that time he has made 171 appearances for the Gunners, but has also spent time on loan at Birmingham City, Juventus and Sunderland.
The Saints are looking for a replacement for Rickie Lambert, who left for Liverpool in May. Left-back Luke Shaw has also departed, while key duo Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren’s futures are both in considerable doubt, meaning Koeman may be forced to do a rebuilding job at the South coast club this summer.
Koeman is thought to be keen on Bendtner, who has 26 goals in 56 games, as he looks to help the club take the extra step after they finished in eighth place last season under Mauricio Pochettino, who has since taken over at Tottenham.
