Arsenal to make £44m bid for Vidal

Saturday 28 June 2014

Arsenal are thought to be preparing a £44m bid for Juventus and Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal, who is also a target for Manchester United, according to the Daily Star.

Arsene Wenger

Both clubs are looking to strengthen their midfield this summer, and new Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal is a known admirer of the 28-year-old, with the Red Devils reportedly weighing up an offer of around £30m.

However, Arsenal may have a better chance duo to their participation in next season’s Champions League, and their reported interest comes just a day after manager Arsene Wenger described him as one of the best midfielders in the world while working for French television on the World Cup.

Vidal’s side take on hosts Brazil in their second round match on Saturday afternoon, and should any deal with Arsenal go through at £44m, it would be the North London club’s record signing, beating the amount they spent to sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in August 2013.

Having joined Juventus from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in 2011, Vidal has impressed considerably in Turin, and has been seen as one of the main factors behind the club’s success, helping them to three consecutive Serie A titles.
