West Ham eye move for Meireles

Sunday 29 June 2014

West Ham United are preparing a bid for former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles, who is set to leave Fenerbahce this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Raul Meireles

Meireles left Stamford Bridge after just one season in the summer of 2012 to join the Turkish side, for whom he has made 57 appearances over two years, scoring five goals. Despite having two years remaining on his current contract, Fenerbahce are now ready to listen to any offers of over £3m for the Portugal international.

The Hammers had a bid for the 31-year-old turned down back in January, but they are now ready to return with an improved offer, with manager Sam Allardyce looking to rebuild his team in midfield areas after releasing Jack Collison and Joe Cole.

Having helped Fenerbahce to the Turkish title last season, he could now be set to join his third English club. West Ham may face competition for his signature, but will be confident of making Meireles their third summer signing after striker Mauro Zarate and midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate.
