Herrera ‘can’t wait’ to play for van Gaal
New Manchester United signing Ander Herrera has said that he cannot wait to start playing under the club’s new manager Louis van Gaal, ESPN has reported.
Man Utd met Herrera’s buyout clause in order to make him their first summer signing on Thursday, joining after three years at Athletic Bilbao, where he scored 11 goals in 128 appearances.
Van Gaal takes charge of Man Utd after the arrives back from leading the Dutch national team at the World Cup in Brazil, and Herrera admits that he is looking forward to the prospect of working with the experienced 62-year-old. "Louis van Gaal is one of the best managers in the world and, for me, I am lucky to be working with him," he said.
"I want to learn a lot of things and I cannot wait to play with Van Gaal, my new team-mates and for Manchester United. I'm really excited to go on pre-season to America and play against Roma and Inter Milan.
"I am a midfielder and one of the best qualities I have is that I always want to be involved. I want the ball and want to help my team-mates. I know the Premier League and really like it. I think I will grow up in the Premier League. It is one of the best leagues in the world."
