Tottenham set to sign Swansea defender Davies
Tottenham are set to make Swansea City and Wales left-back Ben Davies their first signing of the summer after they were given permission to talk to the 21-year-old, according to the Daily Mirror.
New Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has made signing a new left-back his priority this summer after identifying the position as a weak area of his team. He believes Davies provides better defensive qualities than his current options, which include last season’s first-choice Danny Rose, and the long-serving Benoit Assou-Ekotto.
Davies was given his chance in the Swansea first team by Michael Laudrup early in the 2012-13 season after an injury to Neil Taylor. Since then, he has impressed considerably in the position, resulting in Taylor failing to win his place back in the Welsh club’s starting XI.
He has also overtaken Taylor to become first-choice for Wales, and Pochettino sees plenty of potential as he looks to turn Tottenham into a Champions League club. They have agreed a fee of roughly £8m for Davies, who now looks set to become Pochettino’s first signing since arriving at White Hart Lane from Southampton.
