France goalkeeper Lloris wary of Nigeria test
France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has urged his side to keep up their impressive form when they take on Nigeria in the second round of the World Cup on Monday, the Daily Star has reported.
Les Bleus hit eight goals in their opening two group stage matches, before drawing 0-0 with Ecuador to guarantee top spot in Group E. Karim Benzema in particular has impressed, scoring three goals in the tournament so far, while players such as Olivier Giroud, Moussa Sissoko and Mathieu Valbuena have also weighed in with goals.
They now take on a Nigeria side that has reached the knockout stages for the first time since 1998, and they ran Argentina close in their final group outing. And Lloris believes that his side cannot take anything for granted when they meet in Brasilia. He said: "Before the competition we were never labelled as one of the favourites.
"It's true we had some good matches in the group phase but it's like a new tournament now. You need a lot of energy and a lot of concentration at this stage if you want to get through. We will need to be focused and this kind of match will be decided on a detail so we will need to be vigilant right until the end.
"Nigeria are very powerful and this will be a physical challenge for us. They have a lot of skill going forward and also have a lot of pace."
