Arsenal boss Wenger scouting Schneiderlin
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been watching Southampton’s France international Morgan Schneiderlin at the World Cup and could make an approach for the midfielder, the Daily Mail has reported.
It’s said that Wenger watched Schneiderlin in France’s win over Ecuador while working for French television and is a long-term fan of the 24-year-old. But the Saints are understood to be reluctant to sell as Adam Lallana prepares to move to Liverpool.
Southampton are said to see Schneiderlin as a replacement as captain for Lallana and new Coach Ronald Koeman will try to persuade Schneiderlin to stay on the south coast. Koeman has replaced Mauricio Pochettino, who left to replace Tim Sherwood at Tottenham Hotspur.
If Schneiderlin doesn’t move to the Emirates Stadium then Wenger will return to targets such as Sami Khedira, Lars Bender and Javi Martinez.
Schneiderlin moved to Southampton from Strasbourg in the summer of 2008, and helped the club out of League 1 and into the Championship, with Premier League promotion coming in 2012-13. He has made more than 200 appearances for Southampton and received his first France cap in a pre-World Cup friendly.
